In November I will be part of a team of 12 GMP officers and staff travelling to Ethiopia on 21st November 2011 in support of a local charity, RETRAK. Another 12 colleagues are travelling to Uganda on 5th November. The charity works with street children in several African countries. They reach out to vulnerable children to provide them with food, clothing, healthcare and education, addressing the reasons why children go on the street and this is done through income generation, family reunification and a foster care scheme. More than three-quarters of the children they deal with stay off the streets for good. More details are available on www.retrak.org
We need to raise a minimum of £2k each for the trip!
One of the activities I will be doing to raise money is a sponsor slim. I am asking people to sponsor me for each half a stone I lose, up to the end of September. I am 1 stone 10 pounds lighter - yippeeeee :)
I am organising a Retrak Day at Force HQ on Friday 16th September. We sold donated books, CDs, DVDs, sold cupcakes - everything donated by fantastically generous GMP officers and staff. We also had a dress down day and a car wash. All in all we raised £1190.
Friday 4th November is 'The Chief Contable's Dinner'
Final figure to be confirmed but am confident we raised in the region of £24,000.
PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY:
£3 buys a blanket for a child
£5 gives access to urgently needed medical treatment
£46 buys a child’s school uniform and books – allowing them to complete their education.
