The Bill McLaren Foundation was set up to develop the sport of rugby and its values, to encourage sporting opportunities for young people and to create an education centre which will include the Bill McLaren Archive.

Story

We have chosen to raise funds for The Bill McLaren Foundation because they do a lot of good work for Rugby causes. We would like to thank Alan and Linda Lawson for helping to organise the fundraising, as well as the Scottish Rugby Union and, of course, Juan Carlos Albuixech at Sands Beach Resort in Lanzarote who is helping with the equipment and accommodation required for these events. Sands Beach Resort now organises and run the Lanzarote marathon. The Iron Man takes place on Saturday the 5th October and consists of a 1.6 mile swim, a 55 mile bike ride and a Half Marathon (13 miles). This is the first time Ian has competed in an Iron Man, and it will be very tough! The Marathon is on the 8th of December.

Ian has played rugby for many years and wishes to put something back into the sport that he loves so much. The McLaren Foundation helps to develop and promote rugby and its values, it also encourages and provides sporting opportunities for young people and is the force behind the Positive Coaching Scotland Accreditation programme which instils into Clubs - and their members - the real value of rugby through respect, inclusion, discipline and enjoyment.

Ian is now on the Council and the Board of the Scottish Rugby Union, as well as being President of Lasswade RFC. I am happy to be supporting him in October and I am running the Half Marathon in December to help with the fundraising. Thank You for taking your time to visit my JustGiving page.

The first part of the challenge has been completed. Ian finished the Ironman in 7 hours 40 minutes for the 1.9k swim, 4 hours for the 90k bike and just over 2 hours for the half marathon. The toughest event he has ever done and in 33 degrees ! Please continue to donate and thanks to all that have donated, the marathon should slightly easier by comparison. Some great pics on Sands beach active website and Facebook.
