I decided to take up the challenge of the moonwalk as some of my friends had been diagnosed with breast cancer.  On speaking to them, I felt I should also have a mamagram and get myself checked even though I had not felt any lumps. 

In mid March I went to the hospital with my husband feeling bad that I had dragged him out of work for probably nothing. It was therefore a huge shock when we were told they had found something and wanted  to do an ultra-sound. They found a shadow and immediately did a biopsy. A week later my fears were confirmed - I had breast cancer. 

Two weeks ago, I had a lumpectomy. I was fortunate that we had caught it early and the cancer had not spread to the lymph glands.  

I am now making a good recovery and waiting to find out what treatment i need to prevent it coming back.

The research into cancer has been crucial in developing both the screening technology, the drugs to prevent it, and the new test i am waiting for to see if i need chemotherapy or not. 

This experience has made me even more determined to raise money for this great cause and help others.
