SNAC's aim is to support children affected by arthritis and their families by providing information and contact. SNAC runs parent and whole family educational and supportive events hoping to fundamentally improve the childs and families experiences of living with arthritis.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We are running (hopefully not walking in my case!) for SNAC - Scottish Network for Arthritis in Children. Yes that's right - children. Sadly they too can be affected by this horrible condition. My daughter Jos was diagnosed when she was only one. That's her in the picture. She had just turned 2 and had just had another round of steroid injections into her knees and ankles to get her back on her feet and walking again. Back then there was no support group in Scotland for families with a child with arthritis. We had no idea what to expect or if there was anyone else in our situation that we could ask. We were about to start giving Jos weekly injections of a pretty horrendous and painful drug and knew no-one who was having to do the same. 5 years on and Jos is now on a concoction of drugs which are successfully keeping her disease at bay, and we are so much better informed and we have a network of support - other families we can talk to and opportunities to access specialists away from clinics and the hospital. SNAC is the charity providing that support. SNAC aims to offer as much support as possible – especially at initial diagnosis of this chronic condition. SNAC runs information days and family weekends, allowing affected families to meet, share experiences, and also to meet with the rheumatology specialists in a relaxed environment. This is where we could have asked how best to give Jos her injections and used tips and ideas from other parents to make it more bearable for her. SNAC also run various sessions for children like soft play, climbing days and other events when they can meet other children who are in a similar situation to themselves while having a fun time.

To be able to continue doing this SNAC desperately need funding. That's where you can help enormously. If you are able to donate then that is fantastic, but even if you can't you can help by passing on our Fundraising Page to others and help raise awareness of childhood arthritis. You can find out more about SNAC at www.snac.uk.com or on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/SNACPage

Please help us to keep SNAC providing much needed support. We really need you. Thank you again for taking the time to read this. And a big thank you to the poor souls who I've roped in to run too!! You're amazing.
