Story
My latest challenge is to run my first ultra-marathon. 33 miles (53 km) of the Cornish south-west peninsula from Lamorna Cove to St Ives covering some of the toughest and remotest coastal path on the south-west Cornish peninsula. A total ascent of 2850m (9350 feet) - only 150m less than the entire Three Peaks!
Just to make my first ever ultra-marathon that little tougher I will be running through the night.
I will be doing this as part of a relay team completing the Ultra Trail South West Golden Hammer Challenge - a 100 mile relay from Porthleven to Watergate Bay. I expect to take charge of our hammer around midnight and deliver it to our next runner by 9am having covered the furthest south-west reaches of mainland Britain.
I am raising money for Little Harbour (Children's Hospice South West). A children's hospice that makes the most of short and precious lives across Cornwall and the South West. CHSW builds precious memories for families whose children are living with life-limiting or life threatening conditions. Being a parent I know too well how precious all our children are and I hope you too can share the feeling and donate generously.
Two years ago I discovered the joy of coastal trail running. The chance to experience and discover the majestic coasts of Cornwall and further afield. The further I run, the further I want to run, and have progressed from 10K to half marathons and recently a 22 mile trailblaze along the Devon coast. The chance has come to complete my first ever ultra-marathon and what better place to complete this than the longest and most deserted stretch of coast on the whole South West Coast Path (as quoted in the SWCP Guide).
I have just 10 weeks to prepare myself for this monumental challenge. You can keep abreast of my training on my blog.
I will be running, walking and crawling to the end of this challenge in the hope that my endeavour can bring a little extra happiness.
