Hello Mum

Hello everybody. I know my Beautiful Mother would be happy to see you all here today, and on behalf of Mum, Dad, Daren and Janine, I would like to thankyou all for coming, it is an immense support to us and a wonderful tribute to a wonderful lady. I would like to say that my thoughts are also with those of you who have also lost loved ones.

Please forgive me but before I move on, I have this to say to the despicable illness that is leukaemia Myeloma.

You may have taken a wonderful wife and mother, but you did not, and never will beat her.

I was honoured to be with you mum last Tuesday. I want you to know that I stroked your forehead and told you it was over now and that you were free and safe, as Dad held your hand beside you. You were not, and will never be alone.

I have so many words Mum, but none are enough to express my gratitude for bringing me into this world and raising me.

I wrote a few lines that reflect some of my early memories, and the last. All the wonderful moments in between we both know, keep and cherish together. I hope you like it.

You learned me how to read and write

And do numbers ‘til I divided right,

You gave me manners, P’s and Q’s

And taught me how to tie my shoes

You cooked and cleaned and

Cleaned and cooked,

Gave and gave while I just took

And when that night I became a man,

‘twas you Mum who showed me that

Finally I really am.

Mum I want to tell you about why Dad and the three of us chose this place for you to rest. We want you to be safe and happy mum, and your resting place has been chosen with all our love and consideration for what we hope will grow to be a wonderful natural woodland place for you.

Here we hope you will recognize the ‘echoes’ of woodhill, our family home when we three were kids. It reminds me of our paddock, an elevated meadow with views over the pond at the bottom of the hill. There are lovely views over the downs and your resting place is next to two newly planted oak trees, surrounded by several other varieties of newly planted trees. In time the newly planted trees will grow with you, daffodils and crocuses, bluebells and snowdrops will decorate this place. It is a very peaceful place, safe, light and natural, a place where your family and friends can come to visit and sit with you. It faces to the south so you will have sunshine and warmth forever. Spring is on its way Mum, and with it comes new life, happiness and peace. We hope with all our hearts that you are safe now, resting and free. You remain part of us all forever Mum, and we go on.

As you carried me into this world

I carry you into the next

With my heart full of pride

And a tear in my eye

In this place full of peace and rest.

With all my Love forever, Rolf.
