Twickenham Surfers are all members of Twickenham Rowing Club based on Eel Pie Island, Twickenham, West London. We are the only rowing club in the south east who own a surfboat. These boats are usually used on beaches where they ride the waves. They have a crew of 4 and a sweep. Our crew are Rory Bryant, Mark Ormiston, John Collin and Richard Stanley. Our sweep is Richard Meadmore and for this race we have to have a passenger who happens to be Rosa Stanley.
We took part in the Great River Race on 17 Sept 2011 which started in Docklands in London going upstream on the tidal Thames to Ham a distance of 22 miles. 310 other craft took part. We came 41. Further details available on the GRR website.
TwRC have just started a new building project and we would appreciate any support you can give us. Just Giving makes it easy to donate so if you feel you would like to support please do.
One thing I forgot to mention is that surfboats do not have sliding seats plus they are not allowed in the GRR, you slide on your backside, so we slid on our backsides for 22 miles if you cannot support us now I am not sure what we can do.
