Hello! Thank you for taking time to visit my page.
In October 2009 I spent a week on the Isle of Coll on a selection course with Project Trust. Every year Project Trust offer around 200 places to young volunteers overseas in Asia, Africa, South and Central America. This gives them a chance to understand a country and help the community by immersing themselves in it through living and working there for a year. I was selected to go to Peru for a year leaving in August 2010.
Whilst I am in Peru I will be working in a care home for young children who have been abandoned. I will be helping out with the day to day running of the home, teaching basic english, helping with homework and extra-curricular activities such as art and crafts. The main contribution I will be giving to the children is the extra care and support they need as well as acting as a teacher and a big sister.
During the selection course we arrived on Coll not knowing anybody and were thrown in at the deep end staying with a host family and living with other volunteers. We climbed hills, gardened and learned about the projects and countries we could go to. We also had to research and deliver a presentation at the end of the course. On our last night my host family took the other girls that I was staying with and me swimming in the absolutely freezing sea before going to the ceilidh. The week was incredibly enjoyable and I can't wait to go back for training!
I have always been interested in visiting South America so I was delighted when my acceptance letter came through to say my first choice country was Peru. I can't wait to live in this beautiful and vibrant country but I really do need your help to get me there! I have many fundraising activities already planned and I hope you will be involved. These activities include a ceilidh and an auction so far and I would be very grateful for any donations, including raffle and auction prizes.
