We work in India, Nepal & Tibet to improve health & education for Tibetans

Story

Please help us give emergency relief, support new projects and honour our long-term commitments to our friends.
Tibet Relief Fund  continues to face a crisis in funding. Like many charities in the UK, we have been severely affected by the recession and to survive we need your support today.
We have one specific problem: our general funds are worryingly low. Thanks to our supporters’ remarkable generosity we have received an overwhelming response to our appeals for specific projects – such as the Gu Chu Sum school and earthquake relief in Yushu, Tibet – but without general funds we could soon hit crisis point.
To keep going, we need to raise £50,000. It’s a huge undertaking, but we must raise this money to help keep Tibet alive. Today I’m asking you for an urgent donation to cover three key areas:
1. Emergencies: Currently, we do not have funds readily available to ease the suffering in mudslide devastated Gansu, Tibet, nor the flood ravaged Tibetan regions in Ladakh.
2. New projects: Without sufficient funds we are unable to support new projects that come to us for immediate help. All our new proposals have been put on hold until more funding is available.
3. Ongoing projects: Worst of all, we are now unable to continue funding many of the families and communities we have supported in the past, even though they desperately need our help.
For example, the elderly freedom fighters of the Lodrik settlements have asked us once again to ensure they have food, shelter, medicine and clothing. But we cannot respond.
Families in the Sonada settlement have come to us, asking for a grant to rebuild their one dilapidated community hall, which has dangerously cracked walls and a damaged roof that lets the rainwater flood in. But we cannot respond.
Please help us give hope and support to build sustainable futures for poor and displaced Tibetans.
Thanks to people like you, we are still saving and changing many thousands of Tibetan lives – standing with them through thick and thin. But we urgently need your help to ease the effects of the economic crisis that has so severely taken its toll on our income.
As I said, to get back on our feet we need to raise £50,000. Any amount you can give today towards this figure would be hugely appreciated.
Tibet Relief Fund was set up within weeks of the Dalai Lama being forced into exile, way back in 1959. For over 50 years we have helped to keep the Tibet alive in people’s hearts and minds and done our utmost to help Tibetan families and communities in crisis through education and healthcare projects and building livelihoods to give a sustainable future. Please give whatever you can today and help us put wisdom and compassion into action for Tibetan people in India, Tibet and Nepal.

PS Please give whatever you can today. If every person who reads this responds with a donation – even if it’s just £5 – then we will reach our target. Many thanks for your wonderful support.
