Thankyou for taking the time to support the Anthony Nolan Trust, a charity that provided great support to our dearly missed colleague Andy Nash. 

Andy was a highly valued member of the Noise and Air Quality team at URS/Scott Wilson who sadly passed away at the end of December aged just 33. 

Andy worked in building acoustics as well as environmental noise and vibration.  Wherever he worked, he left a positive impression, well liked and respected both for his technical skills and his modest manner.  Andy had that rare ability to get on with everyone.

Following on from his diagnosis in Spring 2011 Andy fought a courageous battle against Myeloma (a type of cancer arising from plasma cells which are found in the bone marrow).  Despite the risks involved, Andy decided to make the very brave choice of opting for a transplant, as this was the only choice to rid him of the cancer.  A suitable donor was eventually found and he underwent transplant surgery in July 2012.  The initial signs were positive, however his illness returned and he went through an unexpected decline in late 2012.

Andy’s funeral took place on Thursday 10th January 2013 in Peterborough.  It was a celebration of his life which reafirmed to everyone that Andy was someone special who inspired to others by his positive attitude towards life and by his many achievements.   

Andy was a very talented musician and a loving husband and father. He was quite simply one of the nicest people you could hope to meet and a very good and valued colleague with a promising career ahead of him. He leaves a wife, Jo, and two very young children. 

In order to honour Andy and to help raise funds and awareness of the Anthony Nolan Trust, we as a team will be taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge which is to climb 3 mountains, Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen Y gent within 12 hours. The total climb will be circa 5000 feet and the walk will cover 24.5 miles.

There are currently 400,000 donors on the Anthony Nolan Trust register but from Andy's experience it is clear that that is not enough to guarantee a match, and there is a drive at the moment to increase this to 1,000,000.
