About the Charity:
The Centre for Rheumatology at the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead, offers ongoing clinical care to patients suffering from Scleroderma and Raynaud’s Phenomenon and undertakes clinical and basic scientific research into the root causes of these diseases. The Royal Free charity raises funds for high priority projects within the Royal Free Hospital where support is not available through public funding. Projects supported make all the difference to patients, such as innovative research and treatment, medical equipment and improved patient facilities.
The Centre for Rheumatology is led by Professor Denton and is a world renowned centre of excellence for care of patients with Scleroderma and connective tissue disease. The department boasts an active clinical trials unit which runs local, national and international clinical trials to allow patients access to cutting edge experimental treatments which are not otherwise available to them.

Why support Scleroderma?
Coming from a close knit family my Sister, Sarah, has always been very important to me. A voice of reason and wisdom, she has always been there for me over the years steering me in the right direction and ensuring I remain on course! I solely blame her for my exhibitionist tendencies as I was forced to sing and perform in front of her friends from an early age. Years have flown by, full of laughter and fun and despite the fact that I have reached the age of 33, she is still my Big Sister.
In July 2011, my sister was diagnosed with scleroderma and has done a fantastic job in tackling it head-on. My respect and admiration for her was sky high before but everyone around her has been amazed by her tenacity and determination. The Centre for Rheumatology at the Royal Free Hospital has provided great support to my sister over the last 12 months and their ground-breaking work is pioneering but severely limited by funds. So little is still know about scleroderma but with 6,000-7,000 people in the UK suffering more needs to be done.
With work resulting in me spending long periods away over the last 12 months I haven’t been on hand to support as much as I would like. However, cycling across the USA and raising money for a fantastic cause is a small way which I can ensure that my sister knows I’m constantly thinking of her.
