Story

Good day! Hello! Bonjour! Excited to see you!

Firstly, BIG fat thanks for being here.

I want to kick things off by explaining a little bit why Kate wants to do Jailbreak 2012, and raise bucket-loads for Cancer Research Uk - I am sure you have your own reasons for being on this page, with your finger poised over the donate button.

Like so many other people I've lost loved ones lost to the big C, and my brother in law is fighting it at the moment, and the nurses and doctors and clinics are being brilliant, but when my Dad died, amongst all the other things he was riddled with, they didn't know until the Post Mortem that he had kidney cancer.
I think its inexcusable at this day and age for some not to get treated when there are people who have champagne for breakfast and sit on thrones of diamonds and gold. Not cool. So I'm sharing this so you see why I'm propelled to do this.

Jailbreak means that we have 48 hours to get as far away from UEA (our beloved university!) through using no money, plenty of savvyness, and a whole load of kindness. This will probably come through a combination of hitchhiking, and very nice train conductors with good hats letting us onto trains. We plan to go farrrrr.

Jailbreak and Cancer Research bank on people power, real compassion, and those who give a monkeys to make the world better for everyone. You all know what its all about, please show your support.

Loads and loads and loads of donated love and generous best wishes from Kate x

Hello beautiful people!

When Kate asked if I'd do this Jailbreak journey with her, I was all at once honoured, moved, terrified, over the moon and fizzing with passion and excitement! With only a week and a half to collect as much money as possible and as many sponsors, I cannot urge you more to show your compassion for this amazing cause.

It is a horribly frightening fact that Cancer affects so many millions of us worldwide and there is yet for an absolute cure to be discovered. This journey is something SO IMPORTANT to me, because like Kate, my own precious family and friends have been recently affected by Cancer.

I think it is incredible that we are so lucky to be blessed with the dedicated scientists, medics, counsellors, carers and charity workers who everyday are putting their hearts into supporting patients and their loved ones in their fight against Cancer. The funding that Cancer Research UK is providing for all these life-savers is flipping fantastic. We should be SO thankful for everything they are doing.

Next weekend then, (in under 48 hours!!) I am preparing to put myself out on the line! In all weathers. With no sleep. And just a cheesy grin, a collection bucket, my passport and Kate for company as we make a trek as far across Europe as human kindness and compassion will allow us to venture.

There are so many ways you can donate: via this page, at UEA and in Norwich City Centre, look out for us with our collection buckets doing all sorts of crazy things! And NOW you can text the number 70070 (Vodafone for Just Giving) with our unique charity code 'JGUD 90' for absolutely free with your donation amount! Wowza!
Give as little or as much as you can-- it all counts.

PLEASE spread the love and post this link on to all your friends and family. And wish me luck!

Love and wishes, Lucy x

UPDATE 13/03/2012- As many of you know... we made it all the flipping way from UEA Norwich to Algeciras, Gibraltar for FREE in aid of Cancer Research in less than 48 hrs! That's a whopping 1,595 miles!! The challenge posed some pretty gruelling situations for Kate and I -- think nowhere to sleep for a whole 2 days, no place to pee, being kicked off the steps of a hostel at 3am, hiding in train toilets, only having chocolate to live off, walking for 18 hours round Seville and a seriously poor grasp of Spanish! BUT, it was totally worth every single penny you guys give! Keep digging deep everyone. :) L x
