We help break the cycle of poverty to transform the lives of children

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. ** UPDATED 26th October with new text  - Please read**

Following the flood damage at the University of Life, caused by the worst rains in 20 years, a lot of clearing up has taken place - see below for details.  If you have donated already, THANK YOU  for making this progress possible!

Our goal is to get the main building back to full capacity by the end of November and with your help we believe we can do it.   Whatever you can donate will be much appreciated.

You can also help by running any kind of event, sponsored sport activity, special collection, coffee morning, meal or Christmas Campaign that you can organise in your church, workplace or online - it will make a tremendous difference.  Please consider what you can do for the children at The University of Life and jump in to make this campaign successful before Christmas

Progress

The roof is on - hooray!!  now we can concentrate on the inside of the building which needs to be restored. These areas are the staff lounge, the office, the hallway and staff bathrooms and the computer lounge.

We desperately need new office furniture:  a chair, a desk, a bookshelf, and a sofa. We have no printers right now either as they were all damaged. We are down to 6 computers for 350 kids which getting near impossible to teach IT classes so these are very high priority.  The bathrooms for the staff still need to be finished and the hallway needs painting.

Please help us meet this goal for the sake of the kids who absolutely love to be at CBC and would have no opportunity to learn otherwise.

We need another £10,000 to reach our overall repair bill which we need to meet before Christmas. This is because the new year will bring another rainy season and it is imperitive that we make the necessary repairs to the drainage system before the next rains come.

***** Sept 8th ******

Urgent repairs have been carried out to one of the septic tanks, and much of the debris has been cleared from the patio area, making it a safer and happier place for the children toplay.  Work has begun on replacing the roof and internet connectivity has been restored.  Some of the areas have been cleaned and painted.

However, there is still lots to do!  Work continues on the main building to dry out and repair damage to the office, computer rooms and staff rooms and damaged equipment, including computers, needs replacing.  Toilets and plumbing need replacing and lots of plastering and painting is needed to make the rooms useable.  Damage to the external walls and other parts of the site needs fixing and preventative work is required to improve drainage to stop this happening again.

Full details of our needs can be found here:   http://www.univida.org/newsite/Newsletters/Urgent Appeal.pdf

Please could you help by donating to help us restore the site to a safe and joyful place for the children?

Please ask a friend to help as well.

Could you organise a fund-raising event to help us?
