The Vehicle Conservation Centre · 28 September 2012

The Tank Museum brings the history of tanks and tank crews to life, supported by the world’s best collection of tanks and live displays. It is an independent Arts Council Accredited Museum. The collection has been awarded the Designation marque as recognition of its importance to the nation.

Story

Support the £25,000 Vehicle Conservation Centre Appeal.

The VCC will ensure that for the first time, every vehicle in The Tank Museum’s collection is stored undercover in environmentally controlled conditions.

The VCC building will cost £2.7m. We estimate that the building will store around 110 vehicles. Therefore, the cost of the VCC per vehicle is approximately £25,000.

The VCC will provide the space to publicly display a number of unique and fascinating vehicles currently stored out of public sight and in poor environmental conditions.

One such vehicle is:

Daimler Scout Car Mk 1 - `The Dingo`

This is probably the sole remaining example of a Mk1 Dingo Scout Car; making it the oldest in existence. The Dingo was a very successful World War II British reconnaissance and liaison vehicle. It was the only British armoured vehicle that was manufactured throughout the conflict. It saw service in all theatres of war and was very popular with those who used it.

By supporting the VCC appeal, you will be helping us ensure that the oldest Daimler Dingo in existence – among a number of other vehicles - is preserved and placed on permanent public display.

Every donation of over £10 will be recognised within the VCC on completion.
