Thank you so very much for helping us reach our original target of £1000 in memory of Brian, we are touched by your support and generosity. We will be keeping the page open for a few more months and still accepting donations for Mesothelioma UK. Fantastically, Laurie, alongside Rob, is walking the West Highland Way over Easter and raising money for Brian. Brian, what number batsman are you on Saturday?
Brian, it's a beautiful day, shall we pack a picnic and go for a walk on the Sandstone Trail?...
Brian Heaps led a very busy life!! He had lots of interests and enjoyed a physical and energetic life. Infact, he didn't even have any medical records, as he'd never been ill or had to go to the doctors.
But as a young man, Brian had completed his apprenticeship at Vickers Armstrong Shipyard, Barrow-In-Furness, Cumbria. Here, as he helped to build warships, submarines etc he was exposed to asbestos. This ticking timebomb laid dormant until 2009, when Brian started to experience pneumonia symptoms. He was diagnosed in May 2010 with mesothelioma (cancer of the lung lining). Brian's optimism, strength and determination were amazing in the face of this very aggressive, cruel and disabling disease. All Brian's passions and pursuits became a chore as he struggled to even walk and breath. Heartbreakingly Brian died on 21st November, surrounded by his family. We all miss him so very very much.
In Brian's memory, we would like to raise £1000 to help other victims of mesothelioma. This money will be given to mesothelioma UK. Brian's funeral has already raised an incredible £450.00 - thank you.
