Story
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.
Since 1996, when my good friend Tom Isaacs was diagnosed at 27 years old with Parkinson's Disease, I have been following the considerable and painstaking work that is being undertaken globally to understand and find a cure for neurodegenerative diseases such as Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson's Disease and Alzheimer's.
In 2005, Tom founded the Cure Parkinson's Trust https://www.cureparkinsons.org.uk and kindly invited me to be a Patron. The Trust has worked tirelessly, by raising millions of pounds and working with some of the world's finest researchers towards advancing the science and the research in this area. Sadly, Tom passed away unexpectedly on 31st May 2017, aged 49 years old.
I can think of no better way to honour those who work tirelessly to advance the work in battling these neurodegenerative diseases than to try to ensure that one of the UK's top teaching hospitals partnered with the University of Sheffield, has a ground-breaking MRI-PET Scanner. I graduated from the University in 1984 and again in 2001.
Hence, I will be taking part in the Big Walk 2018 which is a marathon distance walking challenge starting at 7am on 22nd June through the Peak District. I have no idea if I shall finish as in my preparation I have picked up an injury but I still will start and I hope you will support me in my plan to raise monies for a new scanner in Sheffield.
