Thanks for taking the time to visit Gracie's JustGiving page.

Gracie came into Hope Rescue's care in November. She was originally taken in to a vets practice to be put to sleep by her puppy farmer owner along with Roly, our young chocolate Labrador with severe hip dysplasia. Fortunately the vet contacted one of our foster homes and asked if Hope Rescue would take them in.

Gracie had severe glaucoma in one eye, and early signs of glaucoma and a cherry eye condition in the other. It was obvious Gracie was in a lot of pain as the eye was very swollen. Originally it looked like Gracie would need the one eye removed and an operation on the cherry eye. However, after some initial treatment the vet saw some improvement and was hopeful the one eye could be saved. She was prescribed Viscotears and we were hopeful her eye would remain stable. The other eye also had some scarring and limited vision.

In the interim Gracie managed to find herself a lovely forever home. Final arrangements were being made for her new home to collect her and she went to the vets for another check up. Sadly this time the vet felt that the membrane on her eye had deteriorated and would now require removal.

She is booked in to the vets for 18 January 2011, so we have everything crossed that the operation goes as smoothly as possible for Gracie, her foster family and new forever family. The estimated cost of the operation is £400. With so many dogs currently in our care and with kennel and vet costs rising correspondingly we have decided to hold a specific fundraiser to cover the costs and we hope you will support us.

Gracie is being rehomed under our Assisted Adoption scheme. This scheme has recently been introduced to try and give our dogs with ongoing or future medical conditions that we are aware of, a better of chance of finding a forever home. Hope remains responsible for all costs associated with the known condition, but unlike the Long Term Foster Scheme, the adopter is responsible for all other costs as in a "normal" adoption.
