Myself, my wonderful pink car (Pip) and my trusty co-pilot Vic Norton, are taking part in the Pink Car Rally 2009 on Sunday 6th September. This is in aid of The Little Princess Trust.
The charity sources and pays for 'real hair' wigs for children who have lost their hair, primarily through cancer treatment. The charity was started by a couple who lost their little girl to cancer. She found losing her hair very traumatic and her parents had great difficulty in sourcing a realistic looking wig for her. At that time, finding specialist, high quality wigs for children was very difficult and only after a long search was a suitable company found, who eventually made a wig for Hannah – something she could enjoy wearing. This company is now one of The Little Princess Trust's many suppliers.
In trying to raise awareness and funds for the charity, in 2008 it was decided to hold the first Pink Car Rally, which is now an annual event. The 2009 Pink Car Rally will run on Sunday 6th September, from Hereford Hospital to Birmingham Children's Hospital starting at 10am. A whole host of pink cars following each other along the roads - how much fun will that be??!! There will also be several stops along the way where the public can come out to see us, and have a look at the cars all parked up looking pretty! We are hoping to get some press coverage too, so please come down to support us if you can!
The only requirements for the Rally are that 80% or more of the total surface area of the bodywork, of the vehicles which enter, should be PINK. Pip certainly qualifies for that, so I thought this would be a great way to join in and raise some money for a worthwhile cause. We shall be dressing in pink for the day, including a pink wig, and we shall make sure there are photos available for you to laugh at afterwards!

Many, many thanks in advance for your time and support!

21/08/09 Update
Just thought I would keep you up to date on whats been going on. I originally set my target at £300 as this is approximately what it costs to source one wig for a child. Thanks to the generosity of all of you, I am nearly at that target with 2 weeks to go, so I am going to increase the target a little, as the more I can raise the better!
I was in the Evesham Journal, which you can check out here: http://www.eveshamjournal.co.uk/news/4556294.Pink_lady_is_gearing_up_for_charity_rally/ This is the outfit that I will be wearing for the day, and Vic will be wearing something similar! I am more than happy to look silly if it grabs more attention for this wonderful cause.
Sali Gray, the amazing woman who is organising the rally, has been getting more and more interest in the day, and there is the possibility that we will be featured in The Telegraph motoring section after the rally too!
If any of you know of another pink car driver out there, please please please pass the info on to them, as the more cars that come out and join us for the day, the more impressive a sight it will be! Please feel free to mail the details of this website out to all of your friends and family too - you never know who else might know of a pink car.
Also, the stops for the rally have been confirmed as Homebase on Hylton Road in Worcester (approx 11.45am for 30 mins), Webbs of Wychbold (approx 1pm for 1hr) and Sainsburies Northfield (approx 2.30pm for 30 mins). We would love it if you could come and join in the fun at the stops!
Thanks again,
Vanessa, Vic & Pip xx
03/09/09 Update
Just another quick update for you all. Thank you so so much for all the wonderful support I have received so far! Its only 3 days until the rally, and we have raised an amazing £416.00 so far. But I hope it doesnt stop there!
I am hoping to see some of you at Webbs of Wychbold for the main stop off of the rally - if you have kids, I am sure that they would love to see the display!
I will be coming into work tomorrow (4th Sept) dressed in the lovely costume (as above) that I will be wearing on the day. Hopefully this will make people laugh, and then want to dig deep and support the cause! I should also be in the Leamington Courier tomorrow as well, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
As ever, it isnt too late to get involved! If you know someone with a pink vehicle, or who loves pink, please please please pass the details of this on to them. We would love to have more vehicles in the rally, and the more people that come to see us on the day, the better!
Thanks again,
Ness, Vic & Pip xx
