We support Zambian children to go to school to help break the cycle of poverty.

Story

For my 30th birthday in November I am setting myself a 'spend only a tenner for a week' challenge!

Marc has agreed to join me. The money we save will be going to Cecily's Fund, an amazing charity helping orphans and vulnerable children in Zambia go to school. It is the first donation on this page.

It would be wonderful if you could join the challenge too! But if its not your scene it would be lovely if you could sponsor me. A £25 donation enables a child to go to school for a whole year.

You can donate through this page. Its simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

The rules of the challenge!

We start on day one with a tenner each and it has to last us a week. Rent, household bills, and travel don’t count. The £10 basically has to cover food and discretionary expenditure, like newspapers, drinks etc. We are allowed to use stocks from the cupboard (and use some stuff thats been sitting there for months) but we are NOT ALLOWED to stock up espcecially! Normal shopping patterns must apply pre-spend-a-tenner-week!

This is not a hair-shirt type challenge! I am intending to have fun!

There are lots of activites planned for the free week. All free - or nearly! Art galleries, films, pancakes (very cheap!), a clothes and books swap evening...Many of them rely on other people being willing to join in the challenge! Ten friends have signed up to join us. But I am hoping you might join us too..

Nontheless, having a birthday week with no fancy expenditures will seem all the more worthwhile if I can raise some money for Cecily's Fund! I am hoping that the group will raise £2000 - enough to send 80 children to school for year.

Please help if you can!

Since 1998 Cecily's Fund has transformed the lives of thousands of the most vulnerable children in Zambia by enabling them to go to school. Education gives them a ladder out of the destitution to which they are otherwise condemned. Tragically Cecily died there in her gap year. This is her legacy.
