SolarAid is a small charity set up by Vicky and some colleagues from the world of renewable energy in 2006. It fights poverty and climate change together with solar power. Barely 2% of rural Africa has access to the grid yet many regions of Africa have the highest levels of sunshine in the world. SolarAid’s approach is simple and effective: working with remote and disadvantaged communities, helping them tap into an abundant source of free, clean and
renewable energy - the sun!
SolarAid’s work involves installing solar systems on schools, clinics
and community centres in South and Eastern Africa. It also
helps people to set up businesses, offering sales and marketing training and enabling them to use solar energy as a means of generating a sustainable income.
Richard and Vicky have pledged to raise £1000 for SolarAid over the next twelve months. Richard will be running in the Hastings half marathon on 20th March and they have several other fundraising ideas coming up, including car boot and ebay selling and the chance to get your house eco-audited by Richard in return for a donation! Please give generously!
