At Compton Care, we're here to help people navigate every aspect of life following a palliative diagnosis. We believe people are more than their diagnosis and we work with patients to give them great quality clinical expertise, care, compassion and emotional support to live their best life possible.

Story

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in August to celebrate being '30' and to raise money for a really worthwhile Charity. Please support me by making a donation. However large or small your donation, every penny goes to Compton Hospice to help them continue their amazing work.

Mt Kilimanjaro is in Tanzania in Africa and stands towering at 5895m above sea level, Mt Kilimanjaro is both the highest point in Africa and the world’s highest freestanding mountain. Its snow capped summit rises high above the dusty plains and huge permanent glaciers flow down from the summit. A totally amazing adventure and a challenge of a lifetime.

After losing Mom 8 years ago I vowed to continue the excellent fundraising work she did. She knew the money she raised helped people through the pain and suffering that she herself went through towards the end. She'll never be forgotten and as I walk up my mountain I know she'll be there every step of the way. (Probably telling me to speed up or that i've spilt breakfast on my t-shirt!!)

Compton Hospice was a charity she supported well, having for many years organised 10km runs and sponsored walks around west park, this is my way of continuing her good work.

I chose to do this challenge in aid of Compton Hospice for many more reasons than I can name here but the first because of mom, she supported the charity and encouraged many to do the same, secondly the hospice were there to care for my nan, Kay Thaxter (Dad's mom), and thirdly because the charity have helped so many friends in their hour of need, in particular, Helen and Warner Faulkner who sadly passed away more recently.

Compton Hospice cares for people and their families when they need it most. They offer a place to shelter on the most difficult part of life's journey - offering a helping hand, a listening ear and the caring support of people who understand.

Compton Hospice has been providing the best in palliative care to patients facing a life-limiting illness, and their families for more than a quarter of a century. Their purpose is to make a difference to people’s lives when their illness is no longer curable, adding life to years rather than years to life.

Compton Hospice do this by treating the people, not just their conditions, through in- patient and community care facilities, medical and holistic treatments and support services all of which are free of charge. Their philosophy is to support their patients emotionally, psychologically and spiritually, as well as easing their physical symptoms, to help them live fulfilling lives at home for as long as possible.

Although end of life care remains an important part of what they do, they offer so much more and can make real improvements to their patients’ quality of life, and that of their families, so they can make the most of their time together.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now

Many Thanks, Vicky xxx
