My Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am participating in a seven day Jungle Challenge in Borneo during November, in memory of my Uncle Douglas Day, who died at the age of 35 from an inoperable brain tumor.
The challenge is a five day adventure race set deep in the jungle of Malaysian Borneo bringing together up to 15 teams from all over the world. The teams compete in a series of daily physical and mental challenges including surviving in the jungle, building our own shelter, trekking through rainforest, kayaking down tropical rivers, riding the rapids on our team-built rafts, abseiling and a tough 4,100 meter climb up Mount Kinabulu, the highest mountain in South East Asia.
Not only will this prove to be a huge personal challenge but I would like to use the opportunity to raise money for St Raphael's Hospice where my Uncle spent his last days in an atmosphere of peace and comfort.
I appreciate that we are all finding it difficult during the current economic climate but there are lots of people out there facing bigger struggles than us, so let's help them, please dig deep and make a donation.
By seeing my sponsorship increase it will be a great motivator for the training I need to do in preparation for the challenge.
I have set my target at a modest £1,500 (if I exceeded this it would be amazing). To highlight how every penny counts, to reach my target it would mean finding 300 people to donate £5, this proves it doesn't take large donations, you may hesitate if you are only able to give what you think is a small donation, but it truly will make a huge difference.
Thank you for your support.
p.s. all monies raised will go to the Hospice, I am personally funding the cost of the challenge
St Raphael's Work
St Raphael's Hospice cares for over 925 patients and their families in a year. Hospice care is provided free of charge regardless the extent of the services the patient receives. The medical, nursing and support staff do everything possible to relieve pain and sustain quality of life. These services cost £3.8m per year, over 70% of which has to be raised from charitable fundraising and donations.
Sponsorship and what it means to St Raphael's Hospice
To give a real sense of what your sponsorship would mean to the Hospice, if I raised £692 this would pay for the heating and lighting at the Hospice for a fortnight; £1,000 would cover the cost of one Hospice nurse for a fortnight, who in that time will care for an average of 6 patients; £1,923 would pay for the cost of specialist vital pain-relieving drugs for a week; £3,000 would cover the cost of one Hospice nurse for just over 6 weeks, who in that time will care for an average of 20 patients.
Your sponsorship will ensure that the Hospice can continue its vital work supporting those facing life-threatening illnesses.
