Victoria's page for Francesca

Off The Beatson Track · 27 August 2017 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page this walk and event is very special and important to so many..
As many of you might be aware Emily James and I walked last year with a team of over 100 who were all brought together by Francesca Mancini who was suffering with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and had been on off for over a year.
Francesca walked the full walk last year, which was just one of the many incredible and inspirational things she mananged to achieve. Unfortunately not long after the walk last year Francesca passed away, to say she will be missed sorely is an understatement she was kind and bright and thoughtful and funny and full of love for her family and friends, she helped so many who were similar to herself and has continued to raise money and inspire since ... her achievements and legacy have no bounds.
Francesca has won so many awards since for her bravery and contributions and had been recognised by so many high profile organisations for just being the caring and compassionate amazing human being she was. She truly touched my soul and I feel so blessed to have known her 💖
This is the team Lymphoma warrior page, all money raised here will go straight to the beatson! This page was set up mainly as our big fundraiser of the year " OFF THE BEATSON TRACK" is quickly approaching, well..in August but can never be too prepared..
Our orignal goal was £10,000 but we are already making good progress to smash this. Any donation will be welcome to this amazing charity, I cannot explain how much of a difference they have made to my life and the lives of other paitents and families.
As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in May 2015. I received 4 rounds (14 weeks) of intensive chemotherapy in the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. I found out on the 10.10.15 that I was in remission, but sadly on the 29.12.15 I received the news that my cancer had relapsed. I received 2 more rounds of chemo, which shrunk my tumour enough to get a stem cell transplant in March 2016. After 3 weeks in isolation, I was allowed free. On the 27th of May 2016, I was officially told that I was now in COMPLETE REMISSION!!
I have spent most of my treatment as an inpatient, being treated by amazing doctors and nurses. While in hospital made full use of the facilities which is why I would like to raise money for the Beatson Cancer Charity.
In November 2015, I became an Ambassador for the Beatson Cancer Charity after making a video for the first annual Beatson Ball which was held in the Hilton Glasgow at the beginning of November. You can watch the video in the Gallery section of this page
I made a video for the ball which you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROKoUrhhHvI
Chiara and I also made a video to promote fundraising which you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O23ew3ODuUE
This charity provides a safe place away from clinical hospital surroundings where patients and their families can go to relax, get a coffee (or hot chocolate), and just take a bit of time away from the ward. They also provide a variety of massage therapies which the patients can choose to have in their rooms or in the charities very own spa rooms, which are fully fitted out beauty therapy rooms. A far thought from what you would expect to find in a hospital.
This year the Beatson Cancer Charity will be starting to provide a wig fitting service for their patients, choosing your first wig is extremely difficult and emotional..this often leads to patients making wrong decisions. By providing this service, patients will be able to choose their wig in a calm environment with specialist staff to help them through this hard experience!
The charity also have plans to make a patient coffee shop this year, selling coffee, sandwiches, baked potatoes etc. There is currently only one coffee shop in the Beatson which is a chain, so to have something which is charity lead will be a huge step and success! I always say, "how can you make cancer patients with no appetite eat when the food isn't appetising"- the Beatson Cancer Charity coffee shop will be the perfect solution to this!
Thank you to everyone to visiting my JustGiving page, thank you to everyone who has donated/ fundraised/ supported me throughout everything but most of all THANK YOU to the Beatson for everything you have done for me!
