It was a huge success and raised in excess of £340 a special thanks also to Oulton Raiders under 11s who turned out to offer their support. It gave me a real buzz to be raising money for such a fantastic cause and made me feel positive about reaching my target.
Update
Hi everyone and thanks for the generous donations so far.
I am doing a charity bag packing session at Seacroft TESCO on 16th January to hopefully raise more funds. If anyone can spare an hour or two to help out I would be very grateful.
The Charity
Yorkshire Cancer Centre – aiming higher fighting cancer The new wing at St James's Institute of Oncology will centralise and expand cancer services and provide treatment for a catchment population of 2.6 million people throughout Yorkshire. Charitable donations are vital in helping to provide supplementary facilities and patient comforts not usually available through NHS budgets. The Centre has a £10 million Appeal set up to advance medical research, buy the latest generation of equipment, and to provide more ‘home from home’ comforts for patients, their family and friends
The Challenge
This is a 5 day trek on top of the Great Wall of China snaking up and down through the mountains around Beijing as part of a 9 day challenge. I will be walking a total of 40 miles on both restored and un-restored sections of this modern wonder and will be walking up thousands of steps along the route.
My Reasons
I feel that this £10 million appeal is a worthwhile project to support as I personally have lost two grandparents to cancer and also have friends and family who’s lives have been touched in some way by this dreadful disease.
The Fundraising Details
In order to take part in this challenge, I must raise a minimum of £2, 850 by 16th July 2010. A proportion of this will go towards the funding of the trip including a trek guide and dedicated UK doctor. A minimum of 50% of any donation will go directly to the £10 million appeal. Any monies raised above this target will all go directly to the appeal.
I would be grateful if you could support me in my challenge, no matter how small the donation. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience something wonderful, to challenge myself personally and to raise money for an extremely worthwhile cause.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Thanks, Vicky x
