We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Twenty Six miles seems like a long way to walk, never mind run and worryingly a part of me is hoping that by wearing the Wonder Woman costume I will turn into her ;-). No matter how hard something is I know it's nothing in comparison to what Dad went through...

At the beginning of 2015 my Dad received the news that anyone would dread, he was told that he had metastatic cancer, and it could not be cured. Our lives were instantly shattered and we're all totally devastated. Dad never properly came to terms with his diagnosis and as a family we are all still struggling every day. We received Dads full diagnosis in February 2015 and he died on the 6th of August 2015, none of thought we had only 6 months left together.

Dad was the most kind, loving, ambitious, optimistic and genuine person I have known. Throughout his aggressive chemotherapy and treatment Dad continued to work and live life as normally as possible and even though he was in agonising amounts of pain and suffered life-limiting symptoms,  he always remained optimistic and hopeful. He was in fact, working full time until around two weeks before he died.

As part of his treatment, Dad decided to participate in a research trial on the brink of pioneering treatment, whilst we were devastated to find this drug could not help Dad, he was always hopeful that the future for cancer sufferers would be different. Dad was involved in research throughout his life, he dedicated much of his time to improving the environment of others. Research is close to all our hearts.

Dad knew I hoped to run the 2016 London marathon for Cancer Research. I never thought Dad wouldn't be there to hear the news I had a place and offer his support, but I know he would be increadibly proud.

I pledge to raise £2000 for cancer research and I sincerely hope that in the future, cancer is one less horrible thing in life we have to worry about.

Thank you for reading and I would be immensely grateful if you could sponsor me.

Love,

Victoria
