I am dedicating my ride to my father ( Colonel JHG Deighton OBE MC ), who trod on a landmine during the Salerno landings in Italy in 1944, to all those who have given their lives recently for this country and to all men and women who have been so horrendously injured in Iraq, Afghanistan and in other conflicts in which we have been involved. For every soldier killed in Afghanistan,  another five are severely injured.  Their injuries are beyond our imagination.
