Story
Hello everyone and thank you for visiting my marathon fundraising page.
I had the best day ever on Sunday - I kept running the whole way, loved every second of the marathon and finished in 5 hours 21 minutes which I was super happy with.
I ran for The Royal British Legion (http://www.britishlegion.org.uk/). They are best known for the Poppy Appeal in November each year and we would not have Armistice Day, the two minute silence or such a strong tradition of remembering and appreciating the sacrifice of military service without them. The Royal British Legion helps anyone who has served in the British military for any amount of time and all the dependants of those who have served. This means that a massive 1 in 6 people in the UK are eligible for support from the Royal British Legion and the welfare and support work that they carry out, irrespective of people's backgrounds or ages, is outstanding.
Examples of work by The Royal British Legion include:
- paying for ongoing specialised treatment for young soldiers with shrapnel wounds and skin grafts to their faces;
- helping an elderly ex-soldier to have his hearing aid fitted and finding the right care home for his wife with Alzheimer's;
- campaigning on Gulf War related illnesses;
- providing advice and support to the homeless; and
- independent legal advice and inquest support.
Lots of love,
Victoria
