My story
Tokyo is an amazing city. As far as perks that accompany living in a huge metropolis, Tokyo is definitely flush. However, in order to keep my sanity, I make it a point to getting away from the cement jungle at least once a month. I find that removing myself from all the hub-bub and heading into the mountains - not to mention accompanying hotsprings dip and mandatory post-beer - just really helps revitalising the spirit.
About a year and a half ago, Oxfam was brought to my attention. A fellow trekker (and Canadian) was starting up a corporate team and was asking me to try and get some mates together to start up a team as well. Not only did the idea of 100KM seem like a great challenge that offered breaktaking vistas across several mountains, the proceeds of the race went towards supporting Oxfam global initiatives across the globe.
Unfortunately, due to the proximity of the event and all the general chaos that accompanied the massive earthquake on March 11th, I was unable to participate. Fast forward to 2012 and here I am taking up the flag to not only complete the arduous course, but also raising money for a good cause.
I created this page on JustGiving's website in order to reach a wider audience. Donating through the website is very simple, fast and secure (not to mention the fact that they don't take your info and pass it off to 3rd party clients for money) Once you donate, the money is sent directly to the registered charity (in this case, Oxfam).
