The Jon Egging Trust supports vulnerable and under-confident young people who are struggling to engage at school. They work with students for up to three years, supporting them to build aspiration and self-belief, and to reengage with learning and maximise their potential.

Story

I am curretly a second year on the University of London Air Squadron (ULAS). Recently Dr Emma Egging visited my squadron and gave a very insparational talk about helping disadvantaged young people achieve their full potential. So far to raise money for the Jon EggingTrust I have had my eyebrow waxed off and head shaved in the squadron member's choice. As the Jon Egging Trust is ULAS's chosen charity of year 2012-2013 I'm planning on doing and raising more to reach our Squadron's target of £10,000.

The trust was set up in honour of Flt Lt Jon Egging, who tragically lost his life on the 20th August 2011 whilst completing an air display at the Bournemouth Air Festival; he was coming to the end of his first year with the world-famous Royal Air Force Red Arrows aerobatic team, flying in the Red 4 position.

The Trust has developed an exciting and unique youth engagement programme – Blue Skies – which provides new opportunities to help disadvantaged young people achieve their full potential.

ULAS has set the ambitious target of raising £10000 sponsorship for the Trust this year. The Squadron has planned a series of events to take place over the summer. These events include:

- Coast to Coast Cycle Ride: Staff and students will be cycling across England, from West to East.

- The Pathfinder March: A 46 mile one-day march around the former Pathfinder Force RAF stations of World War 2. Although described as a march, Team ULAS will be running this event!

The 3 Peaks: Staff and students will climb the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours (including travelling time).

- The Nijmegen March: A team will cover 50km a day, four days in a row, at the annual Four Day March in Holland.

- 24 Hour Gangnam Style: Staff and students will participate in a  'Gangnamathon', performing the Gangnam Style dance routine continuously over 24 hours. This may even be a World Record!

- Atlantic Row: Team ULAS will attempt to row the cumulative distance of the Atlantic Ocean, albeit in the safety of the RAF Wyton gym.
