Story

Hi, I'm David Bick. Welcome and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Well, the triathlon's over!

If you don't know about it, please scroll down a bit and see.

I have to say, it went better than expected for me. The weather was fantastic, everyone was happy, I did a load of laps, but most importantly, we've raised a total of over £500! We had a real good time doing it (not to mention pizza and a movie afterwards), and it was for a great cause.

However, we didn't reach the target.

In a way, we shouldn't care, we did our very best, tried really hard to get money for it and the result was really good. So we shouldn't really mind. We should be happy with what we got. And we are! Thanks to everyone who donated. You're so generous.

But, the people of Salina still don't have water and that was the whole point of it. So we're not giving up on them. We'll probably do another event at another time because we are determined to get them their water. Quite honestly, how many times have you had water on the table and you greedily complain and cry out "Oh no, not water again.". I know that I am particularly guilty of that. And all these people have to drink is filthy mud water. So they're going to get what they need. The best thing you can do is, if you haven't, please pop a donation up there and these people will have someone to thank for this gift.

We're going to put full info of the triathlon and make a little video for you to see quite shortly. Hang in there!

Many thanks,

-David

What this is for

This year for my 11th birthday I'm doing something different. I'm asking my friends and family not to give me any presents or money or stuff, and instead help me raise money for some people who are really in need.

My dad is a trustee for a charity called Developing Technologies (or 'DT' - find out who they are here). Sometimes he goes to Sierra Leone to help with some projects there. One time he visited a village called Salina and saw how they get their drinking water from a little pond about a mile outside the village (see photos). That water is disgusting! and makes them sick.

I really want to help these people. DT can provide them with a water well and a hand pump to meet their needs. But it costs £1250 so I need your help!

This event is getting sponsored by Greepers shoes (find out who they are and their ingenious invention here).

What we're doing

We are doing a mini-triathlon involving running, cycling and mixed calisthenics (press-ups, sit-ups, squat thrusts etc).

It is being done by me and some of my friends from school. We want to make the most money possible for this good cause.

When & where

Our mini-triathlon is going to happen on 13 April. We'll start off with running for half an hour at Elthorne Park in west London, then we'll go and do mixed calisthenics for half an hour and get counted, and go back to Elthorne Park and cycle for a final half hour.

There is a lot of preparation work to do. It's going to be really hard and I don't know how I'm going to last the whole time, but I'm training hard for it.

We need your help

You can sponsor us! You can pledge some money for the whole mini-triathlon, or go to our point system. Basically, a running lap is 20 points, a cycling lap is 10 points, a press-up 3 points, sit-ups 2 points, squat-thrust 1 point. You pledge some money per point, and when we finish the triathlon (very soon), we will post the amount of points we earned up here and you donate the amount owed (and yes, you can have a limit). It's as simple as that. We aim to get around 900 points each. We hope we'll make it!

So this year for my birthday, I want to give a present to the people in Salina. They are living in misery and you are the ones to stop it. So please please please sponsor me.
