My story

                             A MESSAGE FROM THE MASTER

                             THE MATCHED FUND CAMPAIGN

As I announced at the Mansion House on 13th June, one of our members (who has asked to remain anonymous) has offered to donate up to £25,000 towards our Charitable Trust’s Bursary Fund on the basis of matching any donations to the Fund made by our Liverymen up to the end of September 2011.  This means that every £1 donated by one of our Liverymen will become £2.

Our Bursary scheme is a truly wonderful initiative which makes a real difference to young people who are much less fortunate than most, if not all, of our members.  The scheme was started in 2008 and provides financial support to former pupils from our four “adopted” schools.  The students (who are reading surveying or other related courses) are nominated by their schools and are typically those who, without our support, would be unable to undertake their further education.

We now support 12 students in this way and in 2010 saw our first bursary student, Charlotte Watson, graduate with a 2:1 degree.

Each of our students receives a grant, currently of £1,500 pa, towards the costs of their further education.  Naturally, this commitment needs a large fund to generate the necessary sums to pay the annual bursaries. The Bursary Fund raised so far stands at £110,000 but we actually need to grow this to an amount of at least £350,000.

With the amazingly generous offer described above, the Matched Fund Campaign gives us the opportunity to rapidly boost the Fund by £50,000.  Moreover, under current HMRC rules, donations qualifying for Gift Aid (available to UK income tax payers) can be boosted by an additional 25%.

Please support this very worthwhile Campaign as generously as you can.

Thank you and best wishes
