Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We are delighted to let you know of an amazing achievement by the Warwickshire Hunt Pony Club. Both the junior and senior mounted games teams competed in the Pony Club Nationals at Cholmondeley Castle, Cheshire over the weekend of 16 – 19 Aug, and to our absolute joy both teams won; with the seniors being one of only six teams going forward to compete for the Prince Philip Cup at this year’s Horse of The Year Show (HOYS) at the NEC in Birmingham.

The sensational Senior A team of Astrid Straume-Brown from North Newington, Isabella Holman-West from Atherstone on Stour, Kieran Tuttiett from Stretton on Dunsmore, Jess Wild from Lower Tadmarton and Isobel Yates from Sibford Gower competed in the Senior Runners Up competition for teams who have not been to HOYS in the last 10 years. The 15 team event consisted of 3 heats of 5 teams with only the first 2 going through to a final, which is an unforgiving format with little room for mistakes.

There were some anxious moments, the 10 race competition started badly and the team missed the first 2 finals to be 9 points behind the leader! The team then recovered well to win 3 of the next 4 races to have a 4 point lead after 6. They then missed another final but won the next to have an 8 point lead after 8 races. Two to go and the seniors knew a good result would see them through. The team delivered and a 2nd place in race 9 meant they had won with a race to spare!! The final standings gave them a 10 point lead

To win the double has never been done before, and considering that over 250 Pony Club branches from across England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales compete fiercely for the six finalist places at HOYS, and that Warwickshire have never before qualified, it is a huge achievement for the children (and ponies) concerned.

The focus now is to train hard in the short time before the event takes place in October (11th - 13th), and most of all to fundraise the £10k that is needed to cover the essential costs including entry and stabling that will enable the team to represent Warwickshire at HOYS and allow the children to fulfill their dream!

We are appealing for benefits towards the fund, however large or small, and if you are able to assist and make a donation we would greatly appreciate your generosity and support.
