This October a series of sponsored evening dog walks - Walk in the Dark - are being arranged across the UK in order to raise funds for and awareness of the charity Medical Detection Dogs and also to highlight the importance of visibility when dog walking, especially as the winter months approach.

We are proud to be a part of this series of events by arranging a walk on Wimbledon Common on Saturday 15th October 2011. The event will begin at the Wimbledon Windmill car park, SW19 5NR at 4.30pm to commence walking as a group at 5.00pm. The exact route will be confirmed on the day, but will be between 2-3 miles and is expected to take around an hour to complete.

Medical Detection Dogs is a charity that trains dogs to help people with life threatening conditions, giving them greater independence and saving their lives on a daily basis, for example by recognising and alerting odour changes that accompany certain medical events. The charity also trains dogs to assist in the detection of cancer.

Walk in the Dark is being co-ordinated and sponsored by Collarways, Intellidogs and Big Walkies in order to promote awareness of Medical Detection Dogs and of visibility of dogs whilst being walked - to promote this, Collarways will also donate £1 for every dog wearing a Leuchtie light collar at a Walk in the Dark event.

You can find out more about Medical Detection Dogs and Walk in the Dark here:

http://www.medicaldetectiondogs.org.uk/
http://www.walkinthedark.org/
