My name is Chris Alstead, I'm 56 years old and I live in Stoke Golding, Leicestershire. I retired about a year ago from my job as a senior engineer at the MIRA automotive research centre near Nuneaton.

I intend to walk part of the South West Coastal Path from Bude to Falmouth, a distance of 210 miles, starting on May 6 and finishing 14 days later. I've been a hill walker for most of my adult life and I am really looking forward to the challenge.

All donations will go to help Leicester Animal Aid (LAA) who re-home about 550 unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats each year. The are supported entirely by voluntary contributions. Please visit their website at www.leicesteranimalaid.org.uk for more information.

My wife Joy and I have visited LAA at Huncote on numerous occasions and took in a chocolate Lab called Benson (now Ben) about eight weeks ago. He's doing fine and gets on with our other two Labs, Bessie and Millie very well. He's happy and gaining in confidence every day. Joy and I appreciate what LAA do very much and are please to raise a few pounds for such a good cause.
