Story

A team of 6 friends with two dedicated drivers are attempting to hill-walk the highest peaks in Scotland, England & Wales in 24 hours. Starting at 5pm on the 1st August we are aiming to get to the top of Ben Nevis (Scotland - 4409 ft), Scafell Pike (England - 3209 ft) and Snowdon (Wales - 3560ft) in a 24 hour period that includes 486 miles of driving.

The foolhardy volunteers are; Alaister and Georgina Pawley, Sian and Ffion Williams, Jon Baynham and Andy Campbell (coming all the way from Chicago). Brian Pawley and Michael Holden are doing the driving.

Our aim is to raise money for the Leon Barwell Foundation who are generously supporting Denis Wright with a share of the proceeds.

Denis was diagnosed with Stage IV Glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, last Christmas at just 35. An incurable illness, the prognosis without treatment was just three months. Denis has endured 30 rounds of radiotherapy and 90 rounds of chemotherapy to ensure he is still with us, battling through seizures and other challenges with incredible positivity. Most cruelly, Denis suffered a bleed in the brain during the biopsy that confirmed his condition, robbing him of mobility on the left side of his body. He now needs constant care from friends and family.

We are fund-raising for him for two important reasons. The first is to help Denis financially with his goal of buying presents for his young children for the big occasions he may miss. The second is to try and help with care costs so that Denis can spend as much quality time as possible with his wife and two boys. Denis has tackled his illness with incredible bravery and positivity and we’ve all been inspired by his attitude and determination.

Our party contains several long-time fans of Northampton Rugby Club and we're very proud and grateful to be supported by the Leon Barwell Foundation as we do this. The Leon Barwell Foundation supports families affected by Cancer by helping them create memories that are everlasting. The Foundation focuses on helping parents living day to day with Cancer and giving them the opportunity to organise a unique family event that they will cherish. Those of us who are parents will know that nothing gives you a lift more than spending time with your loved ones, doing what you love most and seeing them enjoy themselves. These times are precious and make memories that will last forever.
