Story

Update:

We made it! 78 miles and 24 hours of walking later. Happily back to Highgate at 6.30 on Sunday. Beer and fish and chips with family.

Then

In 2012-3 the Ward family walked the Capital Ring around London to raise money for Gain. As it’s a 78 mile trip it took us quite a few fun but tiring weekends. We managed to raise over £6000.

Now

This June, I will be walking the whole of the Capital Ring again, but in one long weekend. That’s just about a marathon each day for three days. Then maybe a beer in Highgate at the end. I’m aiming to raise another £3700 to take the total raised to £10000.

Fortunately I am not alone in my madness and will be joined on the route by Nick, my sister Nic, Matt, Tall Matt, Marc, Charlotte, Hayley, Emily and Rick.

Thanks to all who have been so generous in their support so far and hoping that you can again dig deep to support the work of the Gain charity.

Why Gain:

Gain supports those who have had Guillian Barre Syndrome (GBS), our son Ben had GBS just before he was 2 years old. GBS attacks the nervous system, causing temporary paralysis. At his worse, Ben was unable to walk at all or sit up without help. Following treatment at Great Ormond Street, lots of physiotherapy and surgery, Ben is much better but he still has mobility problems affecting his feet and legs.

Please sponsor to help Gain support other sufferers and to fund important research to understand and treat this rare and devastating condition more effectively than now.

GBS is rare - affecting around 1500 people a year. It has changed the lives of everyone in our family and although 1500 sounds like a few, you may well know someone other than Ben who has been affected.
