Story

We started Friday at 5pm  - photos on left - and then it really has been swimming  every minute from the first swimmers dive to the last metre of the Ironman event 6,400 lengths later.

Report at 12.04pm Sunday 31/01/10 :  Ironmam Team complete 100 miles non stop!

Well done everyone!

Total time Ironman time 43 hours and 3 minutes. The 10 man team finished over 1 hour ahead of its planned schedule. Swimming stopped at 12.45pm with swimmers in each lane racing to complete an extra length to build up their sponsor funds.

80 swimmers took part  - 14 Ironmen did 10 miles a piece  and another 50 swimmers completed 5 miles or more. 20 younger swimmers added an extra 2.5 miles. Some came and completed their first ever 400m or 800m  and 4 'minnows' completed their first ever mile.

Total distance swum by all competitors from Fri 5pm to Sun 1pm is over 430 miles.

The Ironmen were within 30 minutes of a record swim the previous best time just under 42 hours 42 mins.

Report at 6am Sunday 31/01/10 After 37 hours of 42+...

The Ironmen are close to a record schedule..all are striving to beat the previous best time just under 42 hours 42 mins..some sleep depravation is apparent but no one has missed their swim  - the lights show sleeping forms surrounding the pool deck, swimmers readying themselves to swim are clambering among those 'resting' with swims to come.

300 miles done overall and the Friday starter squads are due back at 7am to drive for the finishing line approx 1.40pm this coming afternoon.  Their aim to add another 60+ miles to the tally.

Fastest average time per mile over 10 miles is 22mins 15 secs. Congatulations to all the swimmers - what an effort!

Report at 6am Saturday 30/01/10  After 13 hours of 42+.....

What a busy start with the fastest mile to date just under 22 minutes and some very gutsy swims overnight. Its been -5C  outside but hot and humid poolside. Some great races and individual swims buoyed by the messages below!

Teams who will swim 100 miles have been created. 10 'Ironmen' will do 10 miles each. Another mixed group of 'Ironmen' and 8 regular swimming friends will be working together to complete another 100 miles...then there are  our other 40+ swimmers from 8 to 18 aiming to add another 'ton and a half' to our achievements. 70+ swimmers are involved all weekend.

For some they will complete their first ever swim over 200m as they try the quarter of a mile effort.

This style of event is not easy to complete. It is unique in swimming. Some swimmers have 'volunteered themselves' to swim when you'll definitely be fast asleep. Even the swimmers think the event is (a little) crazy but a fantastic challenge to do. Then of course we are doing this for a very worthy charity.
