Water, essential for survival, vital for life, one of the basic necessities and rights of all mankind

The Horn of Africa is suffering one the worst droughts in 60 years, with the severe lack of access to clean water for drinking and cleaning.

The inhabitants of the lands are suffering unimaginable difficulties; there are an increasing number of fatalities due to the combined atrocities of the drought, famine and extreme poverty the region.

It is estimated that approximately 900 million people do not have an improved access to drinking water; this is roughly one in eight of the world's population out of which 85% live in rural areas.

At any given time, close to half the people in the developing world are suffering from one or more of the main diseases associated with dirty water and inadequate sanitation such as: Cholera, hepatitis A, dysentery, giardiasis, polio, e-coli, diarrhoea, typhoid, salmonella food poisoning, bilharzia, guinea worm, intestinal parasites like hookworm and tapeworm, and trachoma

Half the hospital beds in developing countries are filled with people suffering from diseases associated with poor water, sanitation and hygiene.

The weight of water that women in Africa and Asia carry on their heads is commonly 20kg, the same as the average UK airport luggage allowance.

Africa has the lowest total water supply coverage of any region, with only 62% of the population having access to improved water supply.

The situation is much worse in rural areas, where coverage is only 47%, compared with 85% coverage in urban areas.

Sanitation coverage in Africa also is poor, with only Asia having lower coverage levels. Currently, only 60% of the total population in Africa has sanitation coverage, with coverage varying from 84% in urban areas to 45% in rural areas.

It is predicted that Africa will face increased population growth over the coming decades, with the greatest increase coming in urban areas. As a result, approximately 210 million people in urban areas will need to be provided with access to water supply services, and 211 million people with sanitation services, if the international coverage targets for 2015 are to be met

AL KHAIR DEEP BORE HOLE PROJECT

The deep bore-hole water well project comprises of many uses and applications taken into account. These include the deep water well, a power station, a generator house, water reservoirs, water towers, sintax loft tanks, water filtration plants with filtered water supply system, waste water supplies for cattle and other live stock, direct water pumps from the reservoirs to carriers for supplying water to the areas worst affected by the drought and all in all InshAllah it will be a self sustainable system which will provide clean water to the inhabitants of the lands for a minimum of 20 years.

THE FOLLOWING WILL HIGHLIGHT THE PROCESS OF THE PROJECT.

THE DEEP WELL: This well is dug deep down the earth which meets the under ground natural water reservoir. This well provides an access to this water, (which normally is difficult to reach) by sophisticated pipe-line engineering from the surface.

The water extracted from the ground is stored in the large water reservoirs.

The water reservoirs are situated on the surface of the plant can hold up to 20 - 30 thousand litres of water.

Water is also stored in the Water towers that serve as an extra water reserve facility.

The transportation of the water from the ground - well - reservoirs are done by energy supplied to large motors from the generator room. This also serves power to other electrical equipments to different parts of the plant facility, like the water filtration plants.

The water reservoirs will be capable of supplying water to carriers like large water trucks, which can transport water in large tanks to affected areas. This water can be used for basic utility like washing, & cooking.

Another part of the project facility is the power plant. This power plant houses the Water filtration plant.

The Power plant uses the water from the reservoirs & wells to generate eco energy for the Generator room. The powers supplies are equally distributed from these houses.

The Water filtration plant also serves as Water directly to public for consumptions. This is carried out at the water plant by taps. Here public can get access to pure water for drinking purposes. This purified water is also stored in the Loft Water tanks (sintex) for bulk supplies.

In the whole process, waste water is also incurred. Waste water (dirty water not ideal for human consumption) is transferred to the cattle and livestock section. Here, animals can be brought for drinking this water.
