Sand Dams Worldwide supports people living in drylands to build sand dams, and grow enough food to feed and support their families. Sand dams empower communities, putting the future firmly in their own hands. They provide a lifelong supply of clean water, transforming thousands of lives.

Story

It is estimated that 1 billion people in the world do not have access to safe drinking water. For example the people in the Machakos District of Kenya really need relief from their water problems. One out of three rainy seasons fail, leaving food shortages for most farmers. They have to walk up to six miles a day to collect water and firewood and during severe droughts they may have to walk up to 18 miles a day in search of water.

It's going to be tough for me too, over 13 miles of a gruelling run which will represent what many Africans have to do every day to get water. Thankfully water will be in good supply on my run so I hope you'll help me supply some water to the people in Machakos by sponsoring my run.

Excellent Development, a registered charity, builds small-scale dams to help 1,000 people get a clean, regular water supply. It costs £5,000 to build each dam - and at just £5 per person it's the cheapest known way to provide water for people in semi-arid Africa. These dams can transform communities: more kids go to school, health improves, vegetables and trees can be grown in nurseries, animals get water too which helps subsistence farms produce enough food.

Please sponsor me today! Your help will really make a difference.

Thank you.
