Story
Although it bears the words multiple sclerosis in its title, the group offers help in many other medical areas.
The centre was originally created to offer hyperbaric oxygen treatment to MS sufferers, and a place for them to talk with others in a similar position.
But other conditions covered include strokes, diabetic ulcers, recovery after surgery, low dosage carbon monoxide poisoning, sports injuries, aid in the cancer recovery process, fibromyalgia and ME.
Its value is illustrated by the arrival of 150 people every week for treatment, two thirds of them heading into the oxygen chamber, which can be a blessing for those with MS, strokes, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetic ulcers, wounds, fractures, groin strains, ligament strains and tendon repair, and in post-operation recovery. Around 40 use the physiotherapy unit, with the remainder getting advice in areas such as diet.
Not one penny towards the £80,000 annual costs comes from official outside funding sources, so it is down to people like event like this to make up the 100 per cent shortfall.
