I have now been to see another doctor who specializes in ‘my problem’.  He was very kind and said that my hips are about as bad as they can get, but because my muscle tone is so poor it would be very difficult to do the operation at the moment.  He was pleased that I did not have too much pain, but did say I must not run around and play with balls at the moment.  This did upset me, but I am going to hydrotherapy, which is great, and this will help build up my muscle and keep me fit.

I will be going to see the special doctor again in 6 months time to see what he thinks best for me then.

The Story of Guinness

My name is Guinness. I am a black Labrador and not yet 3 years old. I was heartlessly tied up and abandoned by my owner, but my guardian angel was watching over me and I was found by the Dog Warden and taken as a stray to Battersea Dogs Home – otherwise I don’t know what would have happened to me. I was very frightened, bewildered and felt so alone. I haven’t had a happy start to my life, I was taken to a vet at 8 months old to be PTS as I have hip dysplasia, given to another home, then dumped. I’ve been racking my brains to try to understand what I did that was so bad to deserve being discarded like an old sofa. Perhaps my owners couldn’t afford the money to mend my wobbly legs. All I know is, I am now safe in the hands of these lovely people at Labrador Rescue South East & Central, and my future will be rosy, they will never give up on me. They love all the Labradors that they deal with, are very experienced and know that not all of us are perfect, some of us have little defects, or in my case BIG defects. I know I am going to have to go through a lot of pain to get my hips right, but it will be worth it in the end. I will be able to run even faster and jump even higher! I’m a happy, cheeky chap, I love to run and play, I adore children as they throw balls for me to chase, even though my little legs don’t always do what I want them to, and get tired sometimes. I thought I was the perfect, loyal companion to my mum and dad, but I suppose when you are not quite 100% healthy you don’t fit the blueprint for some owners. Giving them all my love and loyalty was not enough it seems, I’ve now learned that some humans want far more. I haven’t lost my faith in them though, far from it. I’m happy at the moment in my foster home, well if you can call happy going to the vet and having needles stuck in you! I know it’s for my own good in the long run, but that doesn’t stop me turning on the ‘woe is me look’ with my big brown eyes! My foster dad falls for it every time!

I’ve had my x-rays done and it’s not good news for me, my hip dysplasia is very severe and is going to cost many thousands of pounds. But that hasn’t deterred LRSE&C, they are determined I will have the very best care possible so that I can live the rest of my life pain free and secure in a loving forever home. They say all Labradors deserve that chance. Thanks for taking the time to visit the Guinness JustGiving page.
