SOS Africa is a UK based grassroots child sponsorship organisation which invests 100% of your donation in the education and care of African children. Since 2003 we have provided disadvantaged children with holistic education programmes tailored to their needs to help them break the poverty cycle.

Story

On 18th June 2016, we are abseiling the height of 65 sheep from the top of Swansea University's 150ft Kilvey Building to raise funds for SOS Africa and the Swansea-Siavonga Partnership.

Myself (Chelsea Brain), my mother (Julie Brain), my 62 year old granddad!! (Phil Friend), Luke Bennett (my boyfriend) and his family, Alex Bennett and Patrisha Bennett have all been swayed by my lovely charm, to help me raise money to buy resources for my volunteering trip to Siavonga, (Zambia) this July.

I have always been scared of heights and I predict, I will be extremely nervous and close to having a heart attack whilst abseiling Haha. However, I'm doing this in the hope of people donating to those in need.

This July, for four weeks, myself and a group of 10 other volunteers will be travelling to the rural villages in Siavonga, Zambia, in order to work with local people in a variety of areas. These include: educating children in a local orphanage, teaching local people who live in poverty how to cook nutritious meals and delivering business skills worships to local women who will be taught how to manage their finances and future business ideas in order to earn money.

Donations will be used to provide supplies for these workshops, such as stationary, games and sports equipment, crafts and business materials and toiletries etc.

These people have very few possessions and very little money so we appreciate any donation, big or small, as it will go a long way in affecting their lives. Over 28,000 people in Siavonga have no access to electricity, clean water, toilets or a healthy diet. With your help we can reach out and make a real difference.

I am funding this trip myself, however it would be great if anyone could help raise funds for the resources I will need and will leave behind. This will make a real difference to the development of these children and their families and will continue our workshops' impact through future generations.
