Deborah Gardner is raising money for Neuroblastoma UK
“Deborah Gardner's fundraising”

on 9 September 2009

Donations cannot currently be made to this page
Every week in the UK, around two families are told their child has neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer. We fund leading research projects to deliver new, effective and kinder treatments for children with neuroblastoma. With your help we can save more young lives.

The Idea

We are three York based ladies who loved our wedding days and wished we could think of an excuse to wear our wedding dresses again and recapture some of the magical day ... and we've found the perfect solution!

What's it all about?

The evening is a fabulous mixture of food, fundraising, socialising, prizes and dancing ... and all in that wonderful dress you wore once!!

It's all about having a fabulous time, without the stresses and strains of organising the flowers, making sure the family don't squabble and stressing about whether the groom will turn up or not ... with or without both his eyebrows!

Charities

All the previous three Wedding Dress Balls have raised money for the Neuroblastoma Cancer Society (www.nsoc.co.uk).  This charity is dear to our hearts as our good friend has a 7 year old daughter, Jennifer Pickering, who's currently being treated for the disease.

We wanted to continue to raise funds for Neuroblastoma, but also raise funds for another very worthwhile charity.  One of the organisers (Emma C) has been involved with the charity Headway (York) (www.headway.org.uk) through a relative who had an accident causing a brain injury.

Neuroblastoma is a cancer of specialised nerve cells called neural crest cells. These cells are involved in the development of the nervous system and other tissues such as the adrenal gland.

Neuroblastoma is predominantly a tumour of early childhood; two thirds of children with neuroblastoma are diagnosed when they are younger than 5 years of age. It is often present at birth but usually is not detected until later.

The charity Headway are concerned with supporting both the injured person and their family, whether through counselling, rehabilitation services, community outreach and respite care, to name but a few.
