Story

Thank you so much for visiting our JustGiving Page- we have never needed your help more

Sierra Leone's child health indicators are the worst in the world.  We are working to change that

One in four children dies before their fifth birthday in Sierra Leone.  We support the country's only paediatric hospital, and the national teaching hospital for paediatrics, the Ola During Children's Hospital in Eastern Freetown.  We are seeking to raise funds urgently to continue with our flagship project to train paediatricians at the hospital.

Welbodi’s solution- a centre of excellence raising standards nationwide

We are working to create a centre of excellence for child health at ODCH.  We need to train specialists who will take the lead in addressing childhood disease, and actually contribute to the improvement in clinical protocols and standards nationwide.

To do this, a specialist must be brought in to deliver this curriculum.  Professor Tamra Abiodun has been at ODCH since January and has already made Herculean progress; for the first time, six medical officers have been offered the chance to train as paediatricians, and are studying for their primary exams in Paediatrics this year. Their academic progress is mirrored by remarkable improvements in quality care delivery on the wards.

Help us train future leaders in child health

Welbodi is  looking to raise £36,000 for this, our flagship project, by June 31st, allowing us to extend the Professor's stay and continue to support the doctors with their studies.

Every penny you donate will go towards improving paediatric healthcare at the Children's Hospital.  Thank you again for your support!
