Motor Neurone Disease moves fast. It takes away time, it takes away independence and it has no cure. Every day we support people affected by MND. We fund ground-breaking research. We campaign for better care. We’re here for everyone who needs us. Because with MND, every day matters.

Story

The Preston MND Team  from Lancashire Teaching Hospitals trust and East Lancashire Teaching Hospitals trust are uniting in the fight against Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

I am fortunate to work with Julie Sala who is now a MND Nurse Specialist from the MND Care and Research Centre at Royal Preston Hospital. For the last 2 years Julie along with Tracy Sconce Clinical Team Leader from ELHT Colne  District Nurses have walked 30 miles from the Royal Preston Hospital where the MND team are based to Colne health centre where Julie used to work. This year Dr Chhetri our Neurologist,  Pauline, Beckie and I along with Julie are going to join the walk.
The walk takes part on the 23rd of September 2017. Last year Julie and Tracy raised a massive £7.500 with support from other local health care professionals and their friends and families.

The MND team are  all  passionate about raising awareness of this disease and trying to ensure people living with MND get the best possible care.  Julie particularly  holds the cause close to her heart as she lost her husband to MND.

MND is such a cruel terrible disease which is fatal and has no known cure; leaving people unable to walk, talk, or feed themselves. MND affects up to 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time. This means it is considered a relatively rare disease.

Funds raised will be divided between the Motor Neurone Disease Association for Research and The MND Care and Research Centre for education and for vital monitoring equipment which will improve the lives of people living with MND.
