Story

In March 2017 we lost my very dear friend and brother–in–law to Sarcoma which is a very rare type of cancer. Andy fought this dreadful illness for three years. Throughout that time he had to go through four life threatening operations lasting an average of five hours each. They believed after removing the first tumour from his thigh and a large amount of the surrounding area including a massive part of his thigh muscle, followed by an intense course of radiotherapy that it would have stopped it spreading to any other part of his body. Sadly this wasn’t the case and after a few months of us all feeling quite positive about the future, as he worked hard to improve on his leg function, we received the devastating news that it had moved into his groan. Again we all rallied together as a family with positive attitudes believing that this was just a slight step back but it could be beaten. Again the same procedures were carried out and yet again we believed that this time it would be gone for good. This was not the case which led to a strong course of chemotherapy, keeping him in hospital weeks at a time, which
almost killed him, but he was determined and fought back. This was dreadful to watch and I felt so helpless, all the time supporting and staying positive for my sister, nephew, niece, and my own children. I just kept praying this would be it and he would be cured but the truth is they just don’t know enough about this type of cancer. After progressing to his brain, Andy survived two more brain tumour operations but then came another and this was just too deep to operate. Through out all of this he stayed positive, kind, and thankful and tried his best to keep his business going for his wife and young family which was his main concern.

I would never want any other family to suffer the way we are, each and every day, so when my daughter suggested the bike ride from Lands End to John O Grouts to raise money, to help further research to conquer this dreadful type of cancer, I jumped at the chance.

The challenge is 14 days with an average of 72 miles per day. Some days slightly shorter and some much longer. We will cover all types of roads ranging from small tracks to the  roads of Manchester city centre, with a wide range of terrains. I know this will be a
massive challenge of not only fitness but also stamina.

We have all now started our training. For me its an extension of my regular fitness routine. Throughout the winter months I have spent at least 3 sessions a week at the gym building on my fitness. Through circuit training spin classes, netball and of course cycling when possible. I have also invested in a personal trainer to ensure my success.
I am now spending time building on my cycle miles outside weather permitting and on my turbo trainer when it is not fit to venture out doors.

am now asking for any donations you can possibly afford to help this cause and help to conquer this particularly aggressive cancer.

Thank you to all who have agreed to sponsor this challenge and your confidence in supporting me through this endeavour – I will not let you down!
