I consider myself to be very fortunate.  I have two children and they both have their health.  Unfortunately, not all children are so fortunate.

The Rainbow Trust is a children's charity which provides emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness.  The support workers provide practical support 24 hours a day for families in crisis, from diagnosis through treatment and even after bereavement.

My way of saying 'thank you' is to offer some help to these very special families.  Every day for them is a challenge.  My challenge to trek to Machu Picchu is a small one in comparison but my larger challenge is to raise money, which will be used to continue to help these families. There are more than 10,000 families in Britain with a child with a life threatening or terminal illness, but at present The Rainbow Trust can only help one in ten of these families who have a child who might die.

£10 will pay for a family support worker to visit a sick child in hospital, giving some respite to exhausted parents.  

£50 will pay for a support worker to give families time together, away from the exhausting hospital routines.

£100 will give 24 hour support to a family whose child is receiving palliative care.
