Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for DLRAA. It is as always much appreciated.
Let me introduce myself for those who don't know me or know me that well; my name is Wendy, who at the tender age of 31 is still looking for that 'challenge of a life time'. I know I've been near with various things I've done, white water rafting down the Zambezi, getting to the 2nd base camp of Everest and a few marathons on the way ..... but until I finally find 'the one', thought I best fill my time with lots of other things! SO, I've decided to fill my whole year with training and activities and call it a YEAR LONG TRIATHLON. I'm definately not fit enough or brave enough to do a real one!
My plan started on Christmas day 09, with nothing much to do, I perused the internet till I found 'The British Gas Great Swims' (have been on TV - C4), signed up for one, then two ..... till by New Year I'd signed up for ALL FOUR - shame not to really. UPDATE - now signed up for my 5th swim - new event!! Also some fab news, I've been chosen to be filmed for C4's Great swim series, following how I do thoughout the swims.
EVENTS ARE THE FOLLOWING:
14th March - Silverstone Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- UPDATE - completed!! 2 hrs 11 mins and 33 secs

5th Sept - Great North Swim (1 mile open water swim at Windermere, Cumbria) - CANCELLED - GREEN AND BLUE ALGAE PRESENT. NOW TAKING PART IN 2011 EVENT
NEW EVENT - 26th Sept - Great Salford Swim (1 mile open water swim at Salford Quay, Salford - obviously)
17th Oct - Cardiff Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
I'd like to think by the end of the year I'll be a bit fitter and thinner. If not I'll be disappointed!
Chosing DLR Air Ambulance came via a good friend who suggested it. He made the comment of "You never know when you might need it", which is very true. I already donate to the charity through my wages. My target isn't massive but I believe achievable, though every little helps. The average cost per mission is around £1000 and the annual basic running cost of the service is over £1.5 million!!!!! To be fair, in our area we have some very busy roads and some amazing landscapes, which when things go wrong, calls for the expertise of DLRAA.
ALL money that I raise will go start to them as I have paid/paying for everything myself (entry to events, equipment, & accommodation).
What I am asking for is obviously sponsorship but NOT for each event but as a WHOLE - The Triathlon. So if you can spare £2 (the minimum this website requires), then I'm hoping you'll see it as value for money. I know in the current climate its hard but to help save ANYONES life I personally think its worth it. Even if you don't live in the area this Air Ambulance covers, you will most probably at some point in your life travel through the area .......
Points to note
1) I have booked swimming lessons at my local pool VCC and before you ask, yes I can swim but every little helps!
2) I have joined Rutland Velo club (http://www.rutlandcycling.com/Article/356/VELO_CLUB_MEETING.html ), who I'm hoping will help with technique, endurance and performance.
3) Wet suit bought - now thats hard work to get into!! Helpful hint - do not try on at home with heating on! Lesson learned. Its also not a good look!
So now you have read what I have to say and some awful pictures attached, I'm sure you'll think I'm vaguely mad but doing it for a good cause!!!
