Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Now updated for Children in Need 2011 but donations from last year will still show.
I'm a 61-year old swimmer who prefers swimming in rivers and lakes and have done for over 40 years - I gave up chlorinated confinement a long time ago. After a heart attack nine years ago I learned about the therapeutic properties of immersion in cold water and underwent the lengthy acclimatisation training that allows me to swim bare-skin (no wetsuit) in extremely cold water literally down to freezing without any harm. The "treatment" seems to have worked because my heart condition is stable and I'm still here!
I like to do my bit for others in recognition of my good luck in surviving a serious illness. I'm awaiting official clearance to swim from the river steps at Albert Dock but if not forthcoming will have to find another venue. I hope to also be able to accept contributions at the site on the day which is Children in Need Day, 19th Nov.
