RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

SO WHY THE LIFEBOATS..??

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. They provide a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the coasts of the UK and RoI, as well as a seasonal lifeguard service on many of the busiest beaches in England and Wales.

The RNLI is funded entirely from donations, yet it provides an essential public service. Here are some facts:

]The cost: £138m / yr and recieves nothing from Darling/Brown

]During 2008:   Launches - 8,293
                      People Rescued - 7,612
]300 lifeboats crewed by 4,500 volunteers
]Entirely funded by donations
Covers inland waters and up to 100 Nmiles offshore

So whoever you are, if you're anywhere near an inland waterway or at the beach in the UK or RoI, you're safe in the knowledge that the RNLI will be there to help you and your family if needed.

Please give as much as you can towards this great instituion.

My fundraising challenge is to cycle alone and unassisted from Lands End to John O’Groats. This is ]900 miles which i plan to complete in 8 days (115miles/day) ]

Many thanks
Will
